Chicago-based music and video professional
About
Drew McComas is a Chicago-based percussionist, composer/arranger, video editor, and educator. A graduate of Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance — where he studied with She-e Wu, Christopher Lamb, Vadim Karpinos, and Jon Deitemyer — Drew also pursued studies in Film Composition & Post Production, a combination that continues to define his multifaceted career.
As a percussionist, Drew serves as an Ensemble Member and Technical Director of Bridge Percussion. Over his decade-long performing career, he has played in the Greater Chicago and Charlotte areas, with notable credits including the original cast-album recording for Abandon All Hope: A Musical Comedy, the Wirtz Center's production of Something Rotten!, and world and U.S. premieres of works by Christopher Cerrone, Jonathan Bingham, and Hans Thomalla.
As a composer and arranger, Drew creates custom marching band arrangements for ensembles across North Carolina, and his original scores can be heard in short films, documentaries, and web series — most recently in Ariella Khan's Converting. On the education side, Drew serves on the chamber faculty at Midwest Young Artists Conservatory as Percussion Ensemble Director, and works with the Mooresville High School Marching Band as a front ensemble instructor and consultant.
Complementing his musical life, Drew is a video editor at Big Shoulders Digital Video Productions, where he has contributed to campaigns for clients including Capital One, AT&T, the Alzheimer's Association, and the city of Rosemont, as well as narrative, comedy, and documentary projects.
